Excerpts from Stephen
Mejias' blog on Stereophile:
"Everything sounds better with
the DeVore speakers and Arcam Solo.
Sometimes the immediately discernible
difference is subtle, simply a matter of volume. But then
there's also greater presence I mean that I can feel
the music, I can sense the musicians and their instruments
in the space before me. If you were sitting here with me,
I could point them out to you. I could tell you where the
guitarist is posing, where the bassist is hiding, where the
singer is gripping the mic. And then there's higher resolution
I mean, not only can I tell you where the guitarist
is standing, but I can offer guesses at what kind of guitar
is being played, and how the strings are being strummed, and
then, the drummer: I can tell you if he's using sticks or
brushes but you probably don't need me to tell you
that, you can hear it for yourself and I can almost
see him switch between the two. And isn't that cool?"
"I really love the DeVores.
"Details are given more body,
more blood, when communicated through the DeVores. That sound
of fingers sliding against strings, for instance, sounds truer
when presented through the DeVores. I know what that noise
is supposed to sound like I've made it a million times
myself, my own fingers sliding against brass strings when
making music and the little Gibbons get it right. "
"They get it righter. And not
only that, but the DeVores know how to bring all these great
details together to make one beautiful whole.
"Over the last year, I've become
familiar with DeVore Fidelity speakers, listening to the Super
8s at last year's CES, the original 8s at John's home, and
the small Gibbon 3s in my own apartment. They all share a
similar quality, which I quickly recognized again in The Nines
- a superior grip on the music, an ability to really focus
my attention into that magical space between the speakers,
so that music is all that exists - an ultimate respect for
the music."
